My Mom and I can’t escape the allure of flowers: their intoxicating smell, their emotional colors, and intricate details.
Growing & nurturing plants and flowers is part of who we are. We organically grow our favorite seasonal flowers, but we are scaling back a bit. We can’t help but continue to plant pretty ones and watch them gloriously bloom (or as gloriously as they in 100+ degree summers.) The prime time for growing flowers here in the sunny Sacramento Valley is March-May.
Our little farm on an acre of land in Roseville, CA has definitely seen some transitions over the last few years. Currently, we are growing tons of organic veggies, along with a variety of blooms like cosmos, zinnias, amaranth, scabiosa, and lovely old-fashioned garden roses.
Flowers and plants inspire us daily, in all of our creations. They are our biggest source of inspiration and you will likely see flower shapes, colors, and textures pop up in our different creative mediums and ventures.
FLORAL DESIGN FAQ:
What Floral services do you provide?
Verbena is a farmer florist studio currently creating florals for small events less than three months in advance in the Sacramento, CA region including Roseville, Rocklin, and Loomis. We also do memorials, small weddings and parties, and elopements in Northern California. Please don’t hesitate to email us if your event is less than three months out: firstname.lastname@example.org
Why don’t you do weddings further than three months out?
Honestly, we got burnt out doing high-end weddings nearly every weekend that we planned for months and months. We struggle growing beautiful blooms in our crispy 100 degree summers and it just wasn’t fun anymore trying to predict what would be growing for every wedding. We LOVE flowers and will continue to grow our favorites that do well in our area. However, we have decided our health takes priority at this point, and high-stress events are not our calling. We had a trio of close family members pass away within a year and finally decided to take a break from the intense stress and craziness of the floral business. We spent much of 2016 rediscovering our passions and getting back to what keeps us grounded: keeping life simple. We are branching out a little from flowers to leave more time for creating and crafting beautiful goods!
Why did you change your name to Verbena Living from Verbena Florist?
Both Karen and I decided we wanted to get back to doing our favorite things in life…handcrafting beautiful and lasting goods for the home and living a natural lifestyle. We love designing and creating things from materials such as textiles, wood, metal, and of course, flowers. We love gardening and growing our own fruits and vegetables. We love our animals. It is a natural evolution for Verbena to encompass all of our passions and we only hope we can inspire you all to live a life that fulfills you. In the future we hope to have many DIY posts on home decor, natural living, gardening, and design. We have a blog post with more details on the name change!
